Reading Today’s Media: Starting the Dialogue for Young Women Symposium.

Women in the media are often confined to unrealistic standards because false authorities (mainly advertisers) dictate beauty and health standards without incorporating the voices of women. This symposium is intended to show the attendees that women’s voices matter when it comes to defining an inclusive image of womanhood. There is something that can be done regarding negative or inaccurate media portrayals of women. 

Event schedule:

8:00 am        - Breakfast and registration, end 8:30 am

8:30 am        - Introduction, end 8:45 am

8:45 am        - Main stage event (Media Literacy as a Tool), end 9:30 am

9:45 am        - Session 1 (Young Women as Targets in the Media), end 10:30 am

10:45 am      - Snack and Bathroom Break, end 11:15 am

11:15 am      - Breakout Session 2 (Counter Representations), end 12:15 pm

12:15 pm     - Launch party lunch
